PROBLEM

How might we increase the productivity level of individuals with ADHD, help them manage their workload and reach their personal goals?

During the pandemic, many of us, more than ever, find ourselves working from home. Opinions on and perception of this are different: while some individuals are enjoying their experience working remotely, others, even after months of being involved in the ‘new normal’ routine of working from home, are still struggling with low productivity and lack of motivation. Among those, especially predisposed, are individuals with diagnosed and/or have symptoms of ADHD. The overwhelming experience to not being able to focus and manage time efficiently can cause adults with ADHD a load of stress and the inability to reach their personal goals and barely can manage work deadlines and that could effect them very negatively.

THE SOLUTION

Mental Health & Accountability partners are keys

RESEARCH

A way to achieve goals with 95% success…..

Starting with white paper research, I began to draw from research articles on the topic of goals, motivation, and achievement- when I stumbled upon an eye-opening statistic from the American Society of Training and Development:

“..people are 65 percent likely to meet a goal after making their goal public. But their chances of success increase to 95 percent when they have a specific accountability partner to report to”

COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS + THE GAP

The competition had NO ACCOUNTABILITY Or MENTAL HEALTH aspect.

The market analysis showed that most of the products cover planning and organizing processes and notifying about upcoming events. However, only one of them assisted with time management. Also, mental support remained outside of the focus of all those tools.

USER INTERVIEWS

My interviewees were 100% more likely to succeed when they were held accountable for their goals and have the mental health support needed.

Support + Accountability are keys!

Although I saw from research accountability was important, I’ve conducted interviews with 15 Adults (7 which identified themselves having ADHD) who struggled to achieve their personal goals. I’ve asked them questions below to find trends on why they failed at some goals versus others ,then organized my data through affinity mapping.

THE MAIN INSIGHT

None of the previous apps my interviewees used worked due to a LACK of mental health support & accountability.

Based on the trends in my affinity map, I’ve noticed that if people are not surrounded with constant support, have a way to come back from anxiety and not plan ahead, they tend to not achieve any of their goals.

DESIGN PROCESS

Paper wireframes + Digital Wireframes

At first, I spent 3 weeks drafting and sketching the app from paper wireframes to digital wireframes and adding features that will help my user to benefit. It was a bit of hard work but I was happy with the results.

TESTING + IMPROVEMENTS

3 major improvements in my design

Based on various feedback from 8 other peers + mentor feedback, I continually iterated my design over the span of 4 weeks- with 3 major improvements:

CONCLUSION + LESSONS LEARNED

What I’d do differently next time.

What did I learn?

Designing the app has been a challenging and rewarding journey.

Through this project, I realized how important the research stage is. Users can tell you which direction your product should go and what you are missing. Only after in-depth interviews did I understand what was important to users and how to make this application truly valuable for them. I realized that by skipping the research phase, one could end up with a product that no one needs.

It took me one month to reach the point I am at right now, and these are my next steps:

What are the next steps?

  • Develop the “Become an editor” flow + App for editors

  • Develop the product scaling plan (web version)

  • Develop a comprehensive business model

  • Improve user flow

  • Create a customer journey map

Final Thoughts

“Its Done” is a compassionate app that provides organization and mental health balance for adults who are in need of it. It provides a way to get support from those who want to see you succeed not only in your career but on personal goals as well. Its designed to help you make the right decisions to a more healthy life. It creates a way you can build up your habits and be accountable for them. I will continue working on it until it becomes a reality for those of us who need it.
